My Friends Do!
(1)

Welcome to page 2 of the article on the topic of - My friends do!

Having friends is not a bad thing.  Everybody needs to have at least a friend or two.  Sinners may have lots of friends that love to sin, or even hate GOD just like they do.  The Christian should have other Christians for their best of friends for the most part.  It's ok to have a couple friends who are sinners.  After all, who else can you demonstrate CHRIST'S lifestyle to or share the gospel with at the appropriate moment?  Just don't behave like them because "Your friends do!"

As you first read James 4:4-5, you might think it harsh, but the truth is that it is the Christian standard for a reason.  This Scripture is talking about lifestyles.  Let not the Believer in JESUS live by the standards of the world.

James 4:4-5

"You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward
GOD?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of GOD.  Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the SPIRIT HE caused to live in us envies intensely?"

It's not possible for a Christian to live in opposition to GOD for a long time before they stop caring whether they are sinning or not.  Understand this, GOD'S standards are not punishment, but bring blessings into HIS people lives everyday.  When a Christian walks GOD'S Path, the LORD does not delight that HE has another slave, but rejoices that another person HE so deeply loves is living in the shadow of HIS blessings.  HIS joy is for you.  GOD does not need people to be obedient to make HIM a bigger and better GOD.  People need to live obedient and blessed lives to be and remain whole.

When a Christian lives a godly and moral life, obedient to GOD'S standards, they set a course for their friends to follow.  Soon, it will no longer be; "I did this or that, or believed certain very questionable things because my friends do, but my friends will begin to live and act more and more like I do."
