Prayer According To JESUS
Matthew 6

 - HOW TO PRAY -

"This, then, is how you should pray:
   " 'Our FATHER in heaven,
   hallowed be YOUR Name,
 YOUR kingdom come,
   YOUR will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.'
For if you forgive men when they sin
against you, your HEAVENLY FATHER
will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their sins,
your FATHER will not forgive your sins."

Matthew 6:9-15

In Matthew 6:9-15, JESUS lays a foundation for HIS disciples on How To Pray, not What To PrayJESUS' words here are very beautiful and powerful.

This prayer

  • Teaches us to come before our FATHER in Heaven with praise worthy of HIS holiness.

  • Teaches us to live our life according to HIS kingdom principles and HIS will for our life..

  • Teaches us our dependency on GOD'S provisions in our life.

  • Teaches us to accept HIS forgiveness of our sins and to also forgive others who sin against us.

  • Teaches us to avoid rushing into the temptation to sin, and to allow the LORD to deliver us from the plans of the evil one set against us.

  • Teaches us the absolute need to forgive those who sin against us in order for the FATHER to forgive our sins.

Note:

This is the perfect prayer model.  JESUS never intended HIS people to repeat this exact prayer or any other prayer, over and over again in an attempt to appear holy before men or to impress the FATHER.

Remember -

"And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words."  (6:7)

- AND -

"your FATHER knows what you need before you ask HIM."  (6: 8)
